It would seem that there are a few reasons given as to why some women don't want to wear, or even try stockings. Before we go on to say what these are it worth pointing out that the advantages outweigh the perceived disadavantages
There seems to be a general misconception amongst many that corsets and deep-waisted suspender belts should be reserved for grannies. This really is not the case. Do take the time to check out some of the 1950's fashion and you will see what we are getting at. Vintage corsets and suspender belts are durable, comfortable and extremely sexy too!
Judging from today's lingerie departments it would seem that manufacturers are of the opinion that women associate sexiness in lingerie with microscopic sized satin and lace garments. Most of the aforementioned cannot be worn all day without a great deal of discomfort and inconvenience. Maybe even embarrassment at times when the dreadful little plastic clips refuse to remain attached to the nylons. Of course there are exceptions and you will find a few specialist shops who do stock well made items. The run of the mill frilly things are best avoided if you want to keep your seams straight!
Talking of how to keep your seams straight, this is an age old question! The rule of thumb is that 6 or more suspenders (or garters) are better than 4. The actual positioning of the suspenders plays a part and experimentation will prove what works best for you. If possible, it is most helpful for your partner to fasten the rear clips to enable correct positioning without having to be a contortionist. Most importantly to avoid runs, always remember the golden rule - never attach your clips to the key hole area which is a very delicate part of the stocking. Corsets seem to keep the seams straighter than suspender belts as there is less movement of the straps. Whether you choose a corset or a suspender belt, to keep your seams straight avoid ones with suspenders only at the front and side and go for one with an additional one at each side giving a total of at least 6 suspenders.
Top quality suspender belts will have different length straps on the front, back, and sides. If the belt has four garters, the back pair should be an inch or two longer than the front. If you've got six then the back pair should still be longest: an inch longer than those at the side, which are in turn an inch longer than the ones at the front.
Finally, if you wear or are intending to wear any type of real vintage stockings then you will be requiring a suspender belt with longer adjustable straps. Stockings were shorter in those days and the women wore longer skirts. Stockings do vary in the actual length, but you will find that some of the older ones come barely above the knee!
